Itinerary Detail
Day 1
Bienvenue en France!
Our staff will meet you at Lyon airport. From here we’ll transfer you in our private shuttle to our luxury 5 star Chateâux in Pouilly en Auxois . After checking in we’ll have a buffet lunch, where you’ll get a chance to meet your fellow Tour de France fans. Then it’s a short orientation meeting where we’ll run through the plans for the upcoming week. After lunch we will head to Beaune, which is one of the villages on ‘La Route de Grand Crus’. This 60km stretch of road, from Dijon to Santenay, aptly named the Champs Elysées of Burgundy, is home to 37 wine villages! You will have free time to explore beautiful Beaune before we visit a winery, in the heart of the town. 5 kilometres of vaulted galleries dating back to the 13th century housing 2 million aging bottles! We’ll only be tasting 8 and you will receive a bottle as gift at the end of the tasting.
Day 2
LIVE Race-Viewing: VIP Izoard Finish Line Tribune in Dijon
Today we’ll head to Dijon to experience the thrill of a finish. As the capital of Burgundy, Dijon has the perfect combination of history, culture, and cuisine. Its cobbled streets, medieval buildings, and beautiful cathedrals are a sight to behold. We’ll arrive early so you have time to explore this beautiful city, you can have lunch, maybe trying the local dish, coq au vin, paired with another local wine. . Then it’s race time! In the afternoon we will head to our exclusive VIP area on the finish line! It’s, a 3-tiered viewing area , near the finish line, offering a magical experience. As we await the riders, we take advantage of the free bar, canapes and live race coverage, until they arrive at the finish, sprinting for glory!
Day 3
LIVE Race-Viewing: VIP Relais Etape Time Trial
Today we will be in the Relais Etape, situated on the Time Trial Course, between Gevrey-Chambertin and Nuits-Saint-Georges. This exclusive area offers a 3 course meal, a free bar, live coverage and commentary, plus entertainment! Even better news is they LOVE Thomson Spectators and spoil us rotten. The premium roadside location will offer amazing opportunities to get some great stress free shots of the riders as they pass by on their gruelling Time Trial. It’s a spectator favourite!
Day 4
LIVE Race-Viewing: VIP Departure Village in Semur-en-Auxois
As an Official Tour Operator, we have secured a visit of the ‘Team Paddock’ and Departure Village stage start. The Departure Village allows you to see sponsors and gain VIP entry, perhaps even meeting past winners of the race. Then (Covid allowing) it’s onto our favourite – the paddock is where all the cyclists and teams congregate pre-race. The area offers fantastic opportunities to get up-close to the riders and Tour celebrities, as well as getting a first-hand view of the inner workings of the Tour de France. This is the place to get those all-important autographs and pictures with the Tour celebrities and riders. After they head off you will be able to enjoy some lunch in the town, before we head back to our luxury hotel as we watch the sprint on TV. Enjoy the pool or the park, before a final farewell dinner rounds up an amazing trip!
Day 5
Au Revoir
After all that excitement it’s time to say goodbye and we will drop you off at Lyon Saint Exupery airport. We hope to see you back in the future. Join us on a Thomson Spectator Trip to La Vuelta, Spring Classics, or Giro D’Italia
Stage 5
Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne > Saint-Vulbas
The race’s temporary exit from the Alps will be made via Chambéry. Soon after, the peloton will be in La Bridoire, where the finish of the Classique des Alpes Juniors is regularly held. That’s a race for climbers, but they won’t get a look-in here as they head for Saint-Vulbas. After the Côte de l’Huis, tackled with 34km remaining, the wide roads beyond will be ideal for keeping a close eye on the breakaway riders. The winner’s bouquet looks destined to go to a sprinter.
Stage 6
Mâcon > Dijon
Fans of medieval architecture will be treated to aerial images of Cluny Abbey and much more. The breakaway will set off with the ambition of holding off the peloton’s pursuit though the vineyards of the Côte Chalonnaise, but the sprinters should have the last word on the 800-metre straight into the prefecture of the Côte-d’Or.
Stage 7
Nuits-Saint-Georges > Gevrey-Chambertin
Great wines for great riders! But before venturing into the heart of the vineyards, the time trial specialists will spend almost two-thirds of this time trial on forest roads. The climb of the Côte de Curtil-Vergy (1.6km at 6.1%), which comes in the final section, will test their tolerance to pain. On the face of it, there shouldn’t be any big gaps between the best riders, but who knows?
Stage 8
Semur-en-Auxois > Colombey-les-deux-Églises
Although no altitude records will be broken, the first two-thirds of this stage does feature five categorised climbs. The relentless ups and downs may put a strain on the legs at the point when the sprinters’ team-mates are starting to think about setting up a bunch finish. But the last three kilometres of the final straight, which rise slightly but steadily, could be the ideal place to bring the peloton back together.
Stage 9
Troyes > Troyes
The Tour’s first week concludes with a new feature: white roads, which are already an emblematic feature of Strade Bianche and Paris-Tours. The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift made the first passage across Champagne’s gravel roads close to Troyes in 2022. There will be 14 sectors, including six in the final part of the stage, extending to 32km in total, each sector pitching the riders onto the gravel and into the dust.
