Itinerary Detail
Day 1
G’Day Mate!
Your guide Jacinta will meet you at Adelaide airport and we’ll head to our Hotel in the centre of this beautiful city . A welcome lunch will give you the chance to meet your fellow cycling fans and we’ll run through the plans for the next exciting days. In the afternoon you will have some free time to explore the city before we head into the Tour Down Under Village in the evening to enjoy the festivities.
Day 2
Adelaide Zoo
It’s Rest day for the Tour Down Under and we will head to see some of the wildlife typical to Australia. Adelaide Zoo, one of Adelaide’s most iconic attractions, is home to more than 2,500 animals and 250 species of exotic and native mammals, birds, reptiles and fish exhibited over eight hectares of magnificent botanic surroundings. It is the second oldest zoo in the nation and represents a significant part of South Australia’s heritage and social history. Since Adelaide Zoo first opened to the public in 1883, generations of South Australians have shared in the wonder of a visit to the zoo. Zoos SA is a not-for-profit conservation charity that exists to connect people with nature and save species from extinction. In the evening we will have dinner in the Hotel.
Day 3
LIVE VIP Detours Start Line, Lunch and 2 KOM passes
It’s Stage 1 today and we will join in with the local Detours VIP day. We will head to the start line in Prospect and enjoy a private pen to watch the start, with a start line walkthrough. Well enjoy lunch at Vinteloper Cellar Door and watch 2 KOM passes from a dedicated viewing pen and then watch the race finish on the big screen. Once the race is finished we will head to Applewood Distillery in Gumeracha. Specialising in small batch, handcrafted spirits that highlight native ingredients. We’ll have a tour of the distillery before we board the coach and head back to the TDU village. You’ll be free to enjoy the village this evening.
Day 4
LIVE Start, Finish and 2 passes in Tanunda
Tanunda in the Barossa Valley, will be hosting the stage start and finish and two passes from the peloton. We’ll head over on the Spectator bus in the morning in time to witness the cyclists as they head off on their first loop. Tanunda is a fantastic town to watch the race on the big screens until it passes by twice before a sprint to the finish line. The atmosphere is great! There’s plenty of places where you can grab a snack and drinks on the go. After the finish, the Spectator Bus will drop us at the village. In the evening we will eat dinner in the hotel.
Day 5
LIVE Mid race view Hanhdorf
Today will be a mid race viewing from Hanhdorf, which was zoned as a state heritage area in 1988 by the Government of South Australia and acknowledged as Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement. With its cork, plane and elm trees and beautiful restaurants and arts and crafts shops, it’s a must visit town and ideal to catch the race as it passes by! Schnitzel is in the menu from the cafe we have reserved to watch the race from! In the evening, you will be free to enjoy the village festivities.
Day 6
LIVE Race Start on the coast in Glenelg
We’ll have a short journey day and head to the coast to watch the start of today’s stage. Glenelg Beach is Adelaide’s most popular city beach, offering a buzzing vibe and great atmosphere for all to enjoy. Renowned for its wide beach, stunning sunsets, rich heritage and bustling shops, sidewalk cafés and loads of entertainment. You’ll be free to enjoy lunch on your own after the race starts before we head back to the hotel for some well-deserved rest. We will have dinner in Adelaide city in the evening
Day 7
VIP Detours Start, 2 passes and Willunga Hill
Today will experience another VIP day with the organisation. Will head to the start in the McLaren Vale and join the private pen and walk-through of the start. As the cyclists leave , we will feast at Our Place at Willunga Hill with a generous Italian style long lunch in the main dining room. Sip on local South Australian beverages whilst watching the racing action from the big screens and two pass throughs from the riders. Then, head to a dedicated viewing pen to watch the big finale up Willunga Hill. The day is still not over as we have wine tasting, before we head back and are dropped off at the village where you are free to spend the evening.
Day 8
LIVE mid view Adelaide and podium
It’s a local stage today, and we won’t have far to walk as we can watch the race pass by the end of our street. We will head into the village to see the cyclists get ready, see the action pre race, before they head off. You will be free to have lunch on your own, watch the race as it passes by and then enjoy the podium at 3 pm. We will enjoy the village festivities before we head back to our hotel for a farewell dinner
Day 9
